Men and Mental Health
75% of people who kill themselves are men, 73% of adults who go missing are men and one man in eight is alcohol-dependent*, yet it is women who are perceived as being more likely to suffer from low self-esteem, negative thinking, depression and self-harm.
In reality, as the figures show, men are just as likely to suffer from mental health problems, yet they are less likely to seek help or talk about it. The need for men to be more open to accessing help regarding mental health issues is therefore being highlighted by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) to mark National Men’s Health Week which runs from 15-21 June.
